Has your Emotional Eating progressed to the next level?
Do you need help for Compulsive Overeating, Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia or Bulimia?
What is Emotional Eating? When you eat with the intention of soothing yourself rather than responding to physiological signals of hunger you are most likely engaging in Emotional Eating.
However, we all eat for emotional reasons from time to time. Food is comforting and we learn to associate food with comfort the day we are born.
Your emotional eating has moved to the next level, when you start bingeing, overeating and obsessing about food regularly or constantly.
Do you overeat or binge because
- You feel as if you’re falling apart
- You somehow need to anchor or ground yourself
- You feel out of control and powerless
- You get overwhelmed by your feelings
- You feel unable to focus
Compulsive overeating and binge eating are the physical manifestation of Food Addiction.
Every time you binge, your self-esteem sinks lower while your feelings of shame and helplessness sky-rocket. You wish you could hide.
You wish you could pretend it hadn’t happened. But your body doesn’t lie for you.
If you are trying to overcome compulsive overeating or binge eating you are most likely familiar with helplessly watching your body become bigger and bigger from the excess calories consumed during binges.
If you are accustomed to desperately trying to undo the damage of your binges by purging, using laxatives or over exercising, you know what it is like to struggle with Bulimia.
As a counsellor specialized in Disordered Eating and Addictions I have been providing binge eating help and compulsive eating help for countless individuals in North Vancouver, Burnaby and Nanaimo.
Food Addiction doesn’t just threaten your health. It affects all areas of your life:
Mental, emotional, physical and spiritual
That’s why an integrative counselling approach involving body, mind and spirit is most effective to help you stop overeating and help you heal from Bulimia, compulsive overeating or binge eating disorder.
What about Anorexia?
Some individuals need rigid rules to feel safe. They may use food, dieting, rules and body weight as a way to stay away from feelings and to keep people away. Rather than bingeing, someone suffering from Anorexia nervosa will focus on food deprivation.
Are you familiar with:
- Obsessing about weight gain even though you are THIN
- Needing to have “walls up so you won’t lose your sense of self-definition
- Having a preference for rules around eating rather than no rules
- Being uncomfortable with anything that feels like a loss of control
- Seeking distance and isolation
Can counselling help with Anorexia nervosa?
Counselling can most certainly address the underlying issues of Anorexia.
While all eating disorders can impose serious threats to your health, Anorexia and Bulimia can be the most life threatening and should always receive medical attention and care.
